Georgia Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Alleges Brain Damage During Cosmetic Surgery

The adult son of a 54-year-old woman filed a Georgia medical malpractice claim against a cosmetic surgeon for the brain damage his mother suffered during a cosmetic surgery procedure performed at a Georgia medical spa and cosmetic surgery center. The woman had wanted to look her best for her upcoming wedding and consulted with the defendant cosmetic surgeon about having botox injections and treatment for her skin wrinkles.

The Georgia medical malpractice claim alleges that the defendant cosmetic surgeon instead convinced the woman to undergo liposuction at the medical spa and cosmetic surgery center. The plaintiff alleges that at about eight hours into the surgery, the woman’s heart stopped beating and that the medical spa and cosmetic surgery center was not properly equiped or trained to respond to such an emergency. An ambulance was called and the paramedics were able to resuscitate the woman, but there was a delay in transferring the woman to the ambulance while the defendant cosmetic surgeon and an assistant sutured the woman’s open incisons to prevent infection, according to the Georgia medical malpractice complaint.

The paramedics were also delayed in getting the woman to the ambulance because she had to be carried down the steps when the stretcher would not fit into the elevator. By the time the ambulance arrived at the hospital, the woman had suffered a massive and permanent brain injury due to the lack of oxygen to her brain, according to her son.

The defendant cosmetic surgeon reportedly has four pending medical malpractice lawsuits against her. She reportedly also has settled five other medical malpractice claims. Some of the medical malpractice allegations in the pending and prior claims include misleading patients with regard to their surgeries, providing unqualified staff to assist in surgical procedures, and performing surgeries in a facility that was not safe or appropriate for the procedures.

The defendant cosmetic surgeon allegedly posted videos of her dancing to music while performing surgical procedures on patients.
