A Georgia medical malpractice lawsuit filed on December 13, 2023 alleges that the defendant OB used too much force during delivery of a baby, thereby decapitating the baby. Twenty-year-old Jessica Ross and the baby’s father, Taylor Treveon Isaiah, are the plaintiffs named in the lawsuit filed against Dr. Tracey St. Julian, Southern Regional Medical Center, Premier Women’s OBGYN LLC, and two unidentified individuals.
Ross alleges in her Georgia medical malpractice lawsuit that she went into labor on July 9, 2023 during which the baby became stuck during delivery. The plaintiffs allege that St. Julian failed to perform a timely Cesarean section delivery or seek assistance, despite Ross requesting a C-section delivery, which was allegedly denied. The lawsuit alleges that almost three hours passed before St. Julian performed the C-section by which time the fetal monitoring failed to detect a fetal heartbeat. The lawsuit alleges that St. Julian used “ridiculously excessive force” on the baby’s head and neck to deliver him, which resulted in removal of the baby’s body and legs but the baby’s head was delivered vaginally.
One of the plaintiffs’ medical malpractice attorneys stated at a news conference after the Georgia birth injury lawsuit was filed, “As they wrapped the baby tightly, they propped the baby’s head on the blanket to make it appear as if the head was attached, even though it wasn’t.”
The plaintiffs’ lawsuit reportedly alleges a coverup by the hospital, and alleges gross negligence, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Southern Regional Medical Center issued a statement regarding the plaintiffs’ lawsuit, denying the allegations: “Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with the family and everyone affected by this tragic event. Our prayers also go out to the dedicated team of physicians, nurses and staff at Southern Regional Medical Center who cared for this patient. St. Julian is not and never has been an employee of the hospital and the hospital has taken appropriate action in response to this unfortunate situation,” without elaborating on the action it has taken. “Our goal is to provide compassionate, high-quality care to each and every patient and this loss is heartbreaking.”
Premier Women’s GYN website states: “Dr. Tracey St. Julian is a board certified obstetrician and gynecologist. She has been practicing in the Atlanta area since January 2005. Dr. St. Julian is also a certified robotic surgeon, specializing in the treatment of uterine fibroids and abnormal uterine bleeding.”
